The expression ¨mitzvah tzedaká¨, meaning ¨social justice of God¨, was very common in Israel at harvest time, when the owners, guided the workers who went in front and the poor came right behind, not to pick the small ears and nor those that fall to the ground when putting them in the saddlebags, it was even valid for other crops such as olives, the harvester could not shake the olive tree until the leaves fell. This smaller part, which they left, was for the poor of the land, who had neither land nor seeds to plant. By doing so, they saved people from less purchasing power and prospered more and more. So tzedaká can clearly be translated as giving, it's when you have more than your neighbor and share. It is not charity or alms, it is an act of justice. To be fair is to never fire anyone who knocks on your door hungry.

Before being an act of love, it is an act of wisdom, before being an act of kindness, it is an act of intelligence. Just don't hurt those who are ignorant and ignorance prevents you from prospering.
